A CHASE IN CORK
‘Shots were heard near heard near Lavitt’s Quay, Cork,
Shortly before noon on Saturday, and some time afterwards two young men rushed through Drawbridge Street into Patrick Street pursued by C.I.D. officers.
One of them darted down Merchant Street and the other fled into Maylor Street. In his flight one of the men threw his revolver into a house before he was captured and it was recovered later.’

WILLIAM SHEEHAN’S LETTER
In a meeting of the Gibson Bequest Sub Committee, the Gibson Bequest Scholar William Sheehan is reported as having written to the Gibson Committee on 9 May and 19 May ‘detailing his activities in Madrid and complaining of the effects of the climate on his health’. The Secretary reported that he had not so far received a reply from Señor Blay of the Academia des Bellas Artes, Madrid to his letter of 12 May relative to Mr. Sheehan’s work.
‘On the suggestion of the Chairman it was decided to extend the period of Mr. Sheehan’s scholarship for a further period of 4 weeks including 24 July and that a meeting of the Committee be held as soon as a reply is received from Señor Blay.’
