POST-IMPRESSIONISM
Lecture by George Atkinson
“TRIAL BY JURY” AND “H.M.S. PINAFORE”*
‘Everyone and anyone who goes to the Opera House this week may go on the certainty of a most enjoyable performance, completely meritorious ...
Both operas were produced under the direct personal supervision of Mr. Allan Morris, of the principal D’Oyly Carte Opera Company**, whose good offices as “coach” resulted in such all-round efficiency ...
There was a good house for the matinee, and last evening the theatre was crowded. Such an excellent performance cannot fail to attract crowded houses for the week.
The very onerous duties of the hon. Secretaryship are performed most satisfactorily by Mr. Jack McCabe, and Mr. Jack A. Moore as stage manager has no light job.’

*Trial by Jury (1875) and H.M.S. Pinafore (1878) are popular comic operas with music by Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900) and libretto by W.S. Gilbert (1836-1911). Both productions were frequently revived, toured, and recorded.
**The D’Oyly Carte Opera Company was a professional light opera company which staged Gilbert & Sullivan productions from the 1870s until 1982.
