“For apparel oft proclaims the man” (Shakespeare’s Hamlet), or as we say in Cork, “fine feathers make fine birds.”
We’re getting in the Halloween mood with Michael Flynn’s A Change of Costume, our WORK OF THE WEEK!
This striking lithograph from 1977 is one of four prints by the artist in our collection which reflect on role-play and the relationship between human and animal. Flynn, who is a contemporary ceramicist, has suggested that his work at this time is a synthesis of tragedy and farce and that he had gleaned imagery “from observed situations, photography, music, dance, theatre and especially literature.”
Tune in to The Arts House with Elmarie Mawe on Cork’s 96FM and C103FM every Sunday morning as Conor Tallon chats with assistant curator Michael Waldron about each WORK OF THE WEEK!
