The launch of this collaborative project between visual artist, Brian Teeling and art writer, Jennie Taylor will be take place on Thursday 16 May at 6pm. Their project – in a glow of a frozen flame – explores Crawford Art Gallery’s buildings and its immediate surroundings through a printed publication populated by photographic images and flash fiction texts.
Brian Teeling (b.1987) is an Irish multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Dublin. He has no fine art qualifications and is entirely self-taught. Recent achievements include becoming an associate artist with theatre group THISISPOPBABY (2024), an acquisition with The Arts Council of his work, Declan Flynn in Dublin (2023), and the release of his second book, Wet Dream (2023).
Jennie Taylor (b.1985) is an art writer and educator. She has published her work in Critical Bastards Magazine, The Stinging Fly, Paper Visual Art and Visual Arts Newsletter. She was Writer in Residence at the Roscommon Arts Centre (2022-2023) and is currently a PhD researcher in Art Writing at the National College of Art & Design.
Teeling and Taylor will be joined by artist and art critic James Merrigan and writer, researcher, and editor Sara O’Brien for this event.
TEELING AND TAYLOR: in the glow of a frozen flame, available from 16 May, is a BUILDING AS WITNESS artist project, supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries Programme 2012 - 2023.
