Introduced by William Laffan, co-curator of SATURATION: the everyday transformed with Dawn Williams.
05/05/22 | 5:30pm. Crawford Art Gallery, Upper Gallery
Sarah McAuliffe, former Curatorial Fellow at the National Gallery of Ireland, will talk about the history of photography and the evolution of representing people in this medium through the lens of the exhibition “Picturing People” (September – December 2021) at the National Gallery.
Curated by McAuliffe, the photography exhibition featured 75 works by Irish and international artists, including Eamonn Doyle, Sean Hillen, Anthony Haughey, Aoife Shanahan and Locky Morris.
From images of chats on street corners in Dublin to pilgrims ascending Croagh Patrick in Mayo; from pictures of lovers on park benches in New York to passengers on buses in Liverpool, “Picturing People” celebrated humanity in all its forms and explored the diverse photographic processes used to represent people from the 19th century to present day.
