Creative Connections

Creative Connections

Join us in the gallery, meet community makers and try some textile techniques.

This is a free event, no booking is required and all ages are welcome.

In 2017, the Crawford Art Gallery supported by a Creative Communities Award from Cork County Council, initiated a project with women living in the East Cork Area, some of whom are living in Ashbourne House Hotel Direct Provision Centre.  Meeting once a week in Glounthaune Parish Centre with Artist Facilitator Inge Van Doorslaer, this exploratory project has invited participants to meet with others, learn and share textile techniques, and to try something new. We invite you to see some of their ongoing collaborative work during this drop-in session.   Initiated by the Crawford Art Gallery and supported by Cork County Council, Wallaroo Childcare; Child and Family Health Project and Glounthaune Parish Centre.

Sheela-na-Gig 3D
Orla Peach Power will lead a public talk about the Sheela-na-Gig 3D project.

Sheela-na-Gigs are medieval stone carvings of naked women exposing their genitals. The carvings appear in both religious and secular buildings across Ireland. The Sheela-Na-Gig 3D Project is creating a detailed digital record of the current state of the stones, providing a useful tool for current and future researchers and local communities. For the full public talks programme  re.  Naked Truth: The Nude in Irish Art, see our website:
