Traditional Lacemakers of Ireland Review
Saturday 4 February 2017

During the first week of February the Learn and Explore programme issued an open invitation to the Traditional Lacemakers of Ireland to hold their monthly meet in the gallery.

We welcomed the group as they explored the exhibition
Made in Cork
, viewed the gallery's antique lace collection
and participated in an open skill-sharing session in the historic Sculpture Gallery.

The lacemakers are an incredibly vibrant group of women from all walks of life, collectively they possess a huge bank of knowledge about the history and techniques of traditional Irish lace work.

Membership numbers 100 women, and the oldest member is 93 years old,  the group always welcomes new members of all ages.
