Bealtaine 2015
Bealtaine in the Crawford Art Gallery
Join us in the gallery for our annual Bealtaine sessions!

An opportunity to explore the gallery and respond creatively.
No art experience is required and each event is free of charge, though booking is essential.

Each session provides an opportunity to view new exhibitions with a professional artist as your guide.
All are welcome, whether you are curious about the building, an absolute beginner seeking to try something completely new, or some one wishing to develop their existing skills.

Week 1 (Thursday 7th May, 2 - 4pm ): Displaced
Liesel Rosenthal (Alice Schwab) was an avid collector of German and British prints of the 1920s and 30s. This week's discussion will focus on her personal collection of works on paper by such artists as Paul Nash, Christopher Nevinson, and George Grosz, contained within the gallery exhibition Displaced. Participants will be invited to make their own print works with artist Julie Forrester and gallery guide Michael Waldron.

Week 2 (Thursday 14th May, 2- 4pm ): Reconfigurations
Featuring works by Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, and William Scott among others, this exhibition looks at printmaking as an art form. A tour of selected works will highlight the vast range of printmaking techniques available to artists. Participants will be invited to develop their own print works with artist Julie Forrester and gallery guide Michael Waldron.

Week 3 (Thursday 21st May, 2 - 4pm): Vivienne Roche
Co-founder of the National Sculpture Factory and a member of Aosdána, Vivienne Roche is a sculptor who lives and works near the sea in Co. Cork. This week's discussion will explore a new exhibition in the gallery, Vivienne Roche: Heads. The session will involve a playful response to the works using clay led by artist Julie Forrester and gallery guide Michael Waldron.

Week 4 (Thursday 28th May, 2 - 4pm): Kathy Prendergast
Kathy Prendergast is an award-winning Irish artist who lives in London. Her work often explores themes of identity, landscape, and mapping. The talk will focus on new works, including one commissioned by the Crawford Art Gallery.

This session will explore ideas of layering, revealing and concealing, using mixed media led by artist Julie Forrester and gallery guide Michael Waldron.
